Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 30 April 2020 (ClimDev-Africa) - The ClimDev-Africa family has learned with shock of the untimely passing of Dr. Justus Joseph KABYEMERA, who only in 2019 retired from his post as the Coordinator of ClimDev-Africa Special Fund (CDSF) at the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. During his tenure as Coordinator of the CDSF, Dr. Kabyemera applied his rich professional experience and training in Agricultural Economics, Climate Change and Natural Resources Management to oversee the evolution of the Fund into a fully functioning investment and capacity building component of the ClimDev Africa initiative. It was in this role that the ClimDev-Africa family came to know Dr. Kabyemera as a pleasant, cheerful, visionary, hardworking, result-oriented and insightful colleague who was always available to provide professional guidance and support on ClimDev implementation issues. His friendly and witty demeanour, his infinite patience and his humility endeared him to all that he came into contact with.
Fondly addressed as Mheshimiwa by his colleagues, which is Swahili language for “Honourable”Dr Kabyemera was always on hand to provide advice and encouragement to all of us. On issues ranging from personal fitness, to health and diet, and was always eager to discuss his favourite topic – leadership. For which he published a book, “Leadership Skills for the 21st Century: A Guide for Top Managers.” His reassuring presence, his cheerfulness and his endearing collegiality will be greatly missed. The ClimDev family extends our heartfelt condolences to Dr Kabyemera’s family, friends and colleagues.
Go well, Mheshimiwa, Rest in Peace.
