Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 27th May 2014 (UNECA) - The African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) has shipped a consignment of computer hardware consisting of a server, 20 computers, 5 scanners and 15 data storage devices to the Rwanda Meteorological Agency (RMA) and the Rwanda Natural Resources Authority (RNRA).

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 20 May 2014 (ECA) - During a workshop hosted by ACPC for the African Group of Negotiators on the 12-14 May 2014, participants concurred that prospects of capping temperature rise to 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels is already looking bleak, given the slow pace of climate change negotiations.

On behalf of Ms. Tumusiime Rhoda, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Economy of the AUC, Dr. Abebe Haile Gabriel from the AUC chaired the meeting.

ABUJA, Nigeria 31 March, 2014 (ECA) - The United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary for the Economic Commission for Africa, Mr. Carlos Lopes, urged African countries to prioritize renewable energy to ensure that Africa does not make the same mistakes as developed countries did in their industrialisation process. 

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 20th March 2014 (ECA) - The African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) today granted the Ethiopian National Meteorological Agency (NMA) 23 computers to support the upgrading of the country’s climate observation network. 

New Delhi, India 7 February 2014 (ECA) - The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has warned that Africa’s population growth rates could trigger serious competition for resources such as energy, water and food and undermine its development efforts if policy makers and scientists do not pay attention to climate change.

On a request from the government of Benin, the ClimDev-Africa secretariat carried out a consultative mission in Benin between the 27 and 31 January 2014. The main objective of the mission was to discuss and jointly agree with the Government authorities on key priority areas where ACPC/ECA support is needed.

Sea level rise, intense storms and waves and increased coastal erosion, all impacts associated with climate change threatens coastal villages and towns and the critical economic activities.

As negotiators and experts prepare to enter the high level segment of the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP19), which opened in Warsaw this week, the mood among African delegates here is one of confidence and determination to defend the continent’s interest at all costs.
