The UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Mr. Carlos Lopes, has called on Africa to go beyond global negotiations on climate change in their current format and seek solutions that effectively address African concerns on global warming.
The Third Annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-III) opened on 21 October under the theme " Africa on the rise: Can the opportunities from climate change spring the continent to transformative development?”
Participants at a one-day dialogue on Climate Justice agreed that principles of equity and justice must become part of the global climate change negotiations, but could not all agree on the level of Africa’s commitment to climate change agreements.
