And this year’s Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV) is no different as stakeholders attending the conference in Morocco have once again raised a red flag on the continent’s poorly developed meteorological services.

Adaptation key to Africa's survival amid climate change

"While Africa has the option to choose its developmental trajectory in the face of climate change, it has no option but to adapt for survival", says Dr. Rajendra Pachauri of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Addressing delegates via video conferencing during the official opening of the Fourth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV), Dr Pachauri has signaled that Africa remains the most vulnerable continent to climate change impacts due to its poor infrastructure and coping systems.

AfDB to Support Africa's Agenda for the New 2015 Climate Agreement During the Global Climate Talks At Cop 20

Africa hopes Lima meeting will re-energize climate change talks

At the upcoming UN climate change meeting in Lima (COP 20), African groups are hoping that progress can be made towards the goal of reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
COP 20 - the acronym for the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - begins in Lima, Peru, on December 1, 2014. It is seen by environmental experts as a crucial springboard to COP 21 in Paris a year later, where it is hoped a binding and universal agreement on limiting the effects of climate change can be reached.

Mr Barros Bacar Banjai, Guinea Bissau’s Secretary of State for Environment is one of the African Environment Ministers who contributed to the proceedings of the Fourth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV), which was held from 8 -10 October in Marrakech, Morocco. At the end of the Conference, which brought to the fore the plight of Island States in the context of climate change, Mr Barros shared his views on the Conference, the situation of Island States and the ClimDev-Africa programme, which he considers to be a development program.

ACPC and Benin at work to achieve a green Africa!

Benin's Minister of Environment, in charge of Climate Change Management, Reforestation and Protection of Natural Resources and Forestry, Mr. Raphael EDOU, following his active contribution to the discussions of the Fourth Conference on Climate Change and development of Africa (CCDA-IV), provided his assessment of the partnership between his country and the ACPC to the ClimDev-Africa Reporting Team. On this occasion, he presented the "10 million-souls 10 million-trees" project initiated by the President of Benin and supported by the ACPC in a bid to reforest Benin and promote a green Africa.
